Benjamin Howard's paintings employ the use of hand-drawn elements in combination with the haphazard elements that can occur with the first application of paint. Associative process is a very important part in the way that things play out for him. First laying down an intuitive color or shape, line can corral itself into the resolution of a tangible object. Then objects indite the speed of composition and essentially become the next move in his internal game of chess. Over the last few years, buildings and architecture have become an element that animate themselves into his work. These structures have an anthropomorphic aspect to them and breathe into life as organically as the process they were created. Living in the city for quite some time with no easy method to break free of its limits, Howard drew on his surroundings, cars, boats, planes and other vehicles began to appear in his compositions. Within these paintings his story starts to shines through along with his longing to travel and escape.
